Properly maintaining your coffee machine: essential and not complicated

If there's one good 2022 resolution that coffee lovers should make (if they haven't already...), it's to take good care of the machine they received for the holiday season! So that the promise of 365 days of delicious little daily pleasures doesn't quickly turn into a nightmare of cups with altered (or even ruined) taste and a machine that has aged quickly and requires professional intervention. Here we reveal Lëtz Coffee's 6 golden habits to avoid these crimes of lèse-majesté.

1. Before rushing out and buying this magnificent toy: take the time to get to know your machine... so don't skip reading its instructions carefully and keep them safe so you can reread them if you have any doubts. Remember that its warranty will only apply if you maintain it according to the manufacturer's instructions.

2. Every time you fill the tank: If your machine is not equipped with a water filtration system, make sure that the water you use is first demineralized in a filter jug. This will prevent the heated water from depositing limescale on internal surfaces and in the pipes, reducing pressure and thus compromising your machine's extraction capabilities.

3. Before the first cup of the morning: empty (without coffee), run hot water to clean the circuit and heat up your machine.

4. After each use (or at least once a day): clean the exterior of your machine and its accessories with a soft cloth to remove any residue from coffee, milk, etc. that may have soiled them, become encrusted, erode a seal, and end up causing a breakdown or a leak.

5. Every 4 to 6 weeks : Perform a deep descaling and degreasing cleaning of the machine and its accessories. Use the products (tablets, powder, liquid) recommended by the manufacturer. This will ensure that your machine is free of any residue (limescale, dried coffee oils) that clogs the water outlets, strains the mechanics of your machine and, by blocking the seals, causes leaks.

6. Every 2 to 3 months (or as soon as the machine asks you to) : change your filter cartridge . Of course, to protect your machine from that pesky limescale... but also because "purified water" rhymes with "enhanced taste".
