Our 5 basic tips for a good coffee

Whether you're a die-hard filter coffee fan or an espresso enthusiast, the basics for making a good cup of coffee are the same, regardless of the extraction method you choose.

1 | Use freshly ground coffee: The best option is to buy your coffee beans and grind them at home, even if this requires minimal equipment.

2 | Adapt the grind to the extraction method:

  • Extra fine grind for the 'Turkish' method
  • Fine grind for the espresso machine
  • Fine/medium grind for the Italian coffee maker
  • Medium grind for filter coffee maker
  • Coarse grind for the French press

3 | Use the right amount of coffee, neither too much nor too little. This amount also depends on the extraction method chosen.

4 | Use water with a pH of 7, low mineral content (max. 150 mg/l), for gentle methods and filtered water for espresso.

5 | The water temperature should be between 90 and 95°C.
